PASSPORTS

Double-check your passport early! Make sure it is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates in August 2027.

We also recommend keeping a copy of your wedding invitation handy while traveling, just in case you’re asked about the purpose of your trip at border control.

FLIGHTS

We recommend flying into Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). Several major airlines offer flights to Lisbon from the U.S., with both nonstop and one-stop options available.

ARRIVING IN LISBON

After landing, you’ll go through customs, collect your luggage, and head into the arrivals area. Free airport Wi-Fi is available, so you can connect and arrange an Uber/Bolt once you arrive.

Taking an Uber/Bolt?

Follow signs for the designated ride-share/pickup area. The airport can be busy, so give yourself a little extra time to find your driver.

Taking a taxi?

Taxis are readily available outside the terminal. We recommend having some euros on hand, many do not take credit cards

Transportation in Portugal

FROM LISBON AIRPORT

UBER/BOLT & TAXIS
Uber and Bolt are widely available and generally affordable from Lisbon Airport. Taxis are also readily available just outside the arrivals area.

METRO
Lisbon Airport is connected to the Metro via the Red Line, making it an easy and affordable option for traveling into the city.

RENTING A CAR
Planning to explore beyond Lisbon? Renting a car can be a great option, especially for guests staying closer to the venue or exploring the coast.

Getting Around Lisbon

Lisbon has a reliable and easy-to-use public transport system, including metro, buses, and iconic trams.

Ride-share apps like Uber and Bolt work very well throughout the city and are widely used by both locals and visitors.

We recommend using public transportation when possible.
Lisbon’s metro system is clean, efficient, and easy to navigate.

If your phone is set up for contactless payments, you can simply tap to pay at metro gates.

CURRENCY

Euros (€). Cards are widely accepted, but we recommend having some cash on hand for smaller shops, cafés, markets, and local vendors.

LANGUAGE

Portuguese. English is commonly spoken, but a few Portuguese phrases are always appreciated! Brush up on a few basics below.

WEATHER

In August, expect warm, sunny days around 82–86°F (28–30°C) and comfortable evenings around 64–68°F (18–20°C).

GRATUITIES

Gratuity is included in the bill at restaurants, though it is customary to leave an additional 5-10% tip.

Use WhatsApp for international communication
International converters for charging your devices.

Alert your bank you’ll be traveling. Remember to bring an ATM card for cash withdrawals.
Most cell service companies have international phone plans available. You can also just use WiFi, since most places will have it as you explore. If you do this, turn off your cell phone data or switch to airplane mode prior to leaving WiFi.
